Cookies and browser storage
Short version: the public website sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Sign-in and account pages use a sign-in cookie and some browser storage. There are no analytics or advertising trackers anywhere on RosterWise.
What cookies and browser storage do
A cookie is a small piece of information a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Browser storage works in a similar way but stays in your browser: session storage belongs to one tab, and other kinds, such as IndexedDB, stay until you clear them.
Public website
Pages such as the homepage, plans, examples and this page set no cookies and use no browser storage. Fonts and images come from our own site, not from other services. Like any website, our website delivery provider receives technical information about each request, such as your IP address, browser and the page requested, so it can deliver the page and protect the site. See the privacy notice.
Sign-in and account pages
Accounts are created by our team for authorised business customers. When you sign in, RosterWise uses the following.
Sign-in cookie
Why: Keeps you signed in. It holds a random identifier, page scripts can’t read it, and it’s sent only to RosterWise over a secure connection, never with requests started by other websites.
How long: Your browser keeps it for up to 12 hours. Separately, our server ends your session after 30 minutes without activity, 12 hours after you sign in, or when you sign out, after which the cookie no longer works.
Security items in tab storage
Why: A security token that proves changes come from your own RosterWise tab, a note of which account the results on screen belong to, your role (so the right options are shown) and how you signed in.
How long: Session storage for that tab. Signing out removes them. After you sign out, a note that you did so may stay in the tab, so the sign-in page doesn’t report an expired session.
Work in progress, in tab storage
Why: Which roster, trading file and analysis you’re working on, and a key that stops an analysis being submitted twice if your connection drops. These hold record identifiers, not roster contents.
How long: Session storage for that tab. Signing out removes them.
Display conveniences, in tab storage
Why: Your calendar view and the review item to return to after you close a panel.
How long: Session storage for that tab. Signing out removes them.
UK law allows a website to store information on your device without asking, where that is strictly necessary to provide a service you have asked for. The sign-in cookie, the security items and the work-in-progress items are needed to sign you in securely and run the analyses you request. The display conveniences aren’t essential to signing in.
Session storage usually disappears when you close the tab, but some browsers bring it back if you reopen a closed tab or restore your last session. Signing out removes RosterWise’s account items from that tab, whatever your browser does. Nothing else from signing in is kept in your browser: the details exchanged with our authentication provider stay in the page’s memory and are gone when you leave or reload the page.
Clearing or blocking storage
You can delete or block cookies and site data in your browser’s settings. Clearing them signs you out. If you block cookies or site storage for RosterWise, you won’t be able to sign in. Blocking doesn’t affect the public website.
